” From where this stinking odour is coming?”
My father asked loudly. We all family member started searching the source of this bad odour. My son was looking beneath the bed assuming that some rat died. That is smelling. My daughter was looking below the sofa assuming some vegetable peels is lying there which is smelling. I thought – May be a pigeon is trapped in the air conditioner net and died. That has this bad odour. My wife was checking the kitchen dustbin to find out vegetable waste was not
collected by the MCD people properly. It is 2 BHK apartment with a lovely balcony. Every family member was trying to find out the source of stinking odour but no one could find any such object that was making the house filled with bad odour. That was a hopeless condition.
The odour was so bad, it is just hitting the olfactory of all the family member. Suddenly I saw my mom having some incense stick burning and fix that in the mandir to relax us from that bad odour.
Thirty minutes passed. Suddenly our noses sensed that bad odour. Again father groaned- What is going on in this house? Again stinking smell is speeding everywhere. he ordered my father to go to shop and bring deodorant or room freshener to make the house a place with good odour.
My father obeyed his father. A room freshener was used in each and every corner of the house to get rid of that stinking smell. In the mean time, my aaya used some vinegar with water and mop the surface properly. Every widow was opened. ventilators were checked. Everything was fine. Now we were satisfied that the smell had gone.
After an hour again, the bad smells started coming out. This makes me furious. It was just beyond the limit. Every member of my family was worried. We have tried almost everything but in vain.
My mother was suggesting me to call a tantrik. It might be a magic of some evil spirit. My wife had never faced such a situation in her life, so she was very feared. My father was sad. I was trying to sniff everything but nothing is coming out as a solution.
Suddenly my son called me. “Papa, come here.” I went to the room. He told me – “See inside the kurta’s pocket.” I was surprised. It was the kurta of one of my guest who came from village three days ago. He had to visit a doctor, so he was out of the house, generally, in the day. We saw two socks in the Kurta’s pocket which was smelling badly.
Oh! We all got relief. My mother told aaya to wash the socks. So my son lastly championed the sniff test.
